In winter on cross-country skis, in summer on your feet. We will come together in Bedřichov for the Jizerská 50 RUN on 2 September. Have you have not made up your mind whether to come to the Jizera Mountains in summer? Here are ten reasons why the Jizerská 50 RUN is worth it. Registration in the 12 km and 23 km races is still open. You can register here.
As is usual with the Běhej lesy - forest run series, we will have a view of the beautiful natural landscape at the sixth race of this year’s season. The Jizera Mountains offer us endless forests and beautiful views. The race gives especially city dwellers a chance to exchange smog and petrol fumes for the clean air of a protected landscape area at least for a weekend. In such an environment, the race practically runs itself! Take a deep breath and take off.
The motorway leads to Liberec and from Prague, for example, you can reach Bedřichov by car in an hour and a half. And you don’t have to worry about mass public transport. Regular buses from Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou will get you to Bedřichov in roughly 30 minutes. Furthermore, bus service from Liberec to Bedřichov will be enhanced on the day of the race.
In winter, thousands of cross-country skiers pass this way in both directions. When the snow melts, the runners among us can also use these broad trails. There is no need for pushing and shoving and dangerous overtaking, and everyone can run at their own pace without getting in anyone’s way or being held back by anyone else. And even though the race is run in the mountains, you don’t have to worry about difficult terrain and trails.
The Jizerská 50 is a traditional ski race in which both the biggest stars of cross-country skiing and amateurs participate. The summer variant of this classic winter race gives you the opportunity to see iconic locations in the Jizera Mountains without snow cover. Shorten the wait for the winter Jizerská 50 and set out on its trails already in September.
Are you afraid that you might run out of steam during the race? You don’t have to worry! There are four refreshment stations on the 12 km trail, five on the 23 km trail and eleven on the ultramarathon 50 km trail, including at the finish line. The race facilities also offer other forms of refreshment; at the Birell tent you will be able to replenish your fluids with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Before and after the race, you will have the possibility to get taped up by professionals. Every racer will find a unique hiking business card in his/her starting packing. At the finish, they will receive an original wooden medal and an SMS with their time and result. Racers can also look forward to their photos from the race and a certificate available for download free of charge. In the raffle held after the race, you can win a bicycle worth nearly CZK 30,000.
Whether you want to only have a leisurely run or to give it everything you’ve got, you will be satisfied with the Jizerská 50 RUN. If you want to run an easy trail suitable even for beginners, the 12 km route is ideal for you. If you want to really run and see the best of the Jizera Mountains, then you will surely enjoy the 23 km trail. And for the biggest, most fearless athletes, there is the 50 km ultramarathon trail, which will take you all the way to Jizerka.
Even the little ones can race, as there are 500 m and 1 km trails for children up to the age of 15 years. The winners can look forward to nice prizes. And while you are on your chosen trail, experienced child-minders will look after your kids in the Uschovna dětí, which this year has been prepared by Lesy ČR and will feature an entertaining programme with forest instruction. Children will definitely not be bored there. They can also enjoy a bouncy castle provided by Kam s dětmi. The Jizerská 50 RUN sounds like a good way to say goodbye to summer, doesn’t it? :)
It would be a pity to go to Bedřichov only for the race. The Jizera Mountains offer so many ways to spend your time that you will easily want to spend a whole week here. How about climbing up the Královka observation tower, which is not quite two kilometres from the Bedřichov stadium? Bedřichov itself offers a rope park and in Liberec you will surely want to visit the iQLANDIA science centre, the Babylon aquapark and the zoo and botanical garden. Jablonec will thrill lovers of glass and jewellery.
We can run and do sports nearly as much as we like. But there are those among us who have found delight in physical activity even though they have to exert far more effort. When registering for the race, you have the possibility to indicate whether and with what amount you want to help selected handicapped athletes. In cooperation with the Emil Foundation, we will strive to help Kevin, a fourteen-year-old cyclist who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Can we jointly collect enough money so that Kevin can get a new racing tricycle?
Some prefer to run alone under their own colours, but shared fun is double fun. Get a group of friends together, form a team and try to spend as much time on the trail as possible. That’s how simple the rules of the Slow Motion category are. The bigger your team, the greater your chance of winning. Mixed pairs can compete in the Tandem category, a condition of which is that one member of the team must run the 12 km trail and the other the 23 km trail.
